STILL MARCHING...

Thick and fast, the good times at Snafu keep rolling, rolling, rolling... Big thanks to eveyone that made The Presets appearance so tasty last Sunday. So good in fact 'the' NME named it party of the month! Whatever next... Rolling Stone demand The Little Kicks strip naked for their glossy cover?? Speaking of publications the next Snafu Magazine is shaping up nicely... released for the Triptych Festival (info below) the magazine is going full colour, bi-monthly and aiming to break down the very foundations of Aberdeen City and the North East. Keep your eyes peeled... or even better get in touch about contributing or to find out how we can help promote your brand, as we chip away against the sometimes confused approach of the 'elders'... and keep rolling, rolling upwards. Keep up at the back there!

ps. if it's more Snafu comedy you want check out Vladamir McTavish at Take the Mic on Tuesday 18th March!!

SUNDAY SPECIALS
SUNDAY 16th MARCH
QBERT
(DMC HALL OF FAME)
DJ TEZ
The absolute legend of scratch and turntablin’ skillz, QBERT, performs live at Snafu on a Spring Sunday special. What to say about this pioneer of mixing apart from you can now not just buy the CD and T-shirt but… erm… the video game, the shoes, the instruction videos and his very own brand of turntable. He had to retire from the infamous DMC Championships because he was too good for the rest but with his mentorship he’s guided many more to his dizzying heights too. This is a rare chance to catch someone who’ll be seated at the high table of DJ Gods when we look back on Earth with fond memories from outer space.

EASTER SUNDAY SPECIAL 23rd MARCH
FC KAHUNA
(CITY ROCKERS)
+ support TBC
An electrifying fusion of futurist acid house and silicon soul, driven by a sense of adventure and distaste for the mainstream that has always been this pair's stock in trade. NME hailed LP Machine Says Yes as being "Easily as good as the last Chemical's album  and snapping at the heels of Daft Punks' Discovery, Machine Says Yes is as broad in it's retro reference as it is happy to revel in the futuristic". Over the years the suppport for FC Kahuna has rolled in from some of the world's most respected music pioneers including Fatboy Slim and Andrew Weatherall; as well as supporting Royksopp and Zero 7 on tour, playing acclaimed festivals like Coachella, T in The Pak, Roskilde, Reading/Leeds and Benicassim; and playing at global hotspots alongside the likes of Erol Alkan, Ivan Smagghe, 2manydjs, Jo Jo De Freq, Miss Kitten, DJ Hell, Mylo, The Glimmer Twins, Tiga, et al.

FRIDAY IS MIXTAPE
FRIDAY 14th MARCH
CAGEDBABY LIVE EXPERIENCE
(SOUTHERN FRIED RECORDS)
GILES WALKER
This will be Cagedbaby’s 3rd appearance at Snafu, and on this occasion we are damn pretty excited to announce that his six piece live band, The Cagedbaby Live Experience, will be rocking our basement (with big sound).

Tom Gandey AKA Cagedbaby was crowned 2007s new boy wonder of dance; with his playful mix of seductive electro-pop, subtle techno rhythms, laidback party music and snippets of 80s power chords, making him and his music irresistible to all who stumble upon it. Following on from the success of Cagedbaby’s debut album “Will See You Now”, numerous global gigs alongside the likes of Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, Soulwax and Erol Alkan (sometimes outshining the afore mnetioned) Tom began to work away busily perfecting a live show that would match the fresh and driving feel of the album. And done it he has, the show is said to rival others (Spektrum, LCD, Soulwax), with performances taking on new dimensions with no technological cop-outs – the real deal at Snafu before a summer of rocking festivals worldwide.

FRIDAY 28th MARCH
RADIOSKOOL
A LA FU
(BIG DADA/VAVA RECORDS)
KID PROQUO
Last Friday of the month can only mean one thing... yes it's the money shot with two of the finest turntablists to grace the Scottish stage. From early hip-hop roots this clubnight's tempo has been thoroughly hung, dried and quartered.. that's 4-4 so to speak as the sounds of B-more are flipped through the grimiest levels of urban audio possible. With a recent appearance in Moscow, as well as appearing starring The RZA at this year's Triptych, A LA FU certainly has it all to play for... shame the same can't be said of his belovec AFC.

STONES THROW RECORDS SHOWCASE
WEDNESDAY 19th MARCH
PEANUT BUTTER WOLF
(STONES THROW FOUNDER)
JAMES PANTS
MARTIN JAY
Founder of the critally-acclaimed label Stones Throw Records and peer of the likes of Jay Dilla (R.I.P), Q-Tip, MF Doom and Madlib, Peanut Butter Wolf comes from the good side of the hip hop tracks.  Substance rather than style is the ethos at work here, and that is reflected in the quality of the recordings, productions and remixes he lends his hand to. Coming in from LA California it's a real pleasure to be announcing this midweek showcase of mighty fine hip-hop, funk and soul flavours. Peanut Butter Wolf's Return of the DJ is known as the first all-DJ album which helped spark the careers of turntablist artists such as QBERT (see above), Cut Chemist, DJ Z-Trip and others. In 1996 PBW formed Stones Throw - now home to legends Madlib and J.Rocc as well as upcoming funkster James Pants.

James Pants is from Spokane. In Spokane there are lots of people with long fingernails and lots of dogs. In Spokane, rent is very, very cheap and so James Pants can afford to buy records and not work too awfully hard. A long time ago, James Pants started playing drums and marching in bands. After hitting cymbals for a while, James Pants bought cheap turntables and learned to scratch with Steppenwolf. James Pants' turntables skipped so much that he lost many battles and was never a good DJ. Then James Pants started playing Showbiz and AG, but no one liked his rap, and he was never paid. Then James Pants started playing Cameo and his drums again and people danced a little. Now James Pants plays his new album and a few girls like it. "Mystical and enchanting," is what people in Spokane say about it. Teenagers at the park like to dance and make-out to the new James Pants sound. "What a kaleidoscope," said one lady with her dog. "I can feel the universe pulse."

This tour also sees the guys play the likes of Fabric, Chibuku Shake Shake, Manchester’s Warehouse Project and Hi-Fi in Leeds.  This will be a very special show!

BLACK TOOTH ROCK LOUNGE *LAUNCH*
MONDAY 24th MARCH  **NEW CLUB NIGHT**
BLACK TOOTH ROCK LOUNGE
KASHMIR RED LIVE
FUDGE DJS
Monday 24th March sees Monday nights a-changing at Snafu. The Black Tooth Rock Lounge combines the rum-fuelled piracy of The Moorings, the sheer decadent filth of Fudge Promotions and (the not-yet-tainted-by-long-hair-or-air-guitar) virginal Snafu, hoping to establish itself as a night dedicated to everything that makes Rock'n'Roll the scourge of good family values. As well as dance-floor gems from the Fudge DJs, expect touring bands, local barnyard rockstars, dark cabaret and burlesque. Upcoming guests include: 24/03 Kashmir Red, 31/03 Bloodnut, 07/04 The Death Set.

Originating from the North East of Scotland Kashmir Red are a Rock’n’Roll band with genuine meaning behind their music. Having only been on the go for 9 months the Aberdeen 4 piece have created a massive following that has seen the band gig extensively around Scotland. With their "wall of sound" performances accompanied with stand out melodies their live show has become one of the highlights of 2007 for the Aberdeen music scene.

DIRTY HEARTS CLUB: LIVE MUSIC EVERY THURSDAY
THURSDAY 2Oth MARCH
FELIX KUBIN (HAMBURG/GAGARINRECORDS)
JESUS H FOXX
STEVEN MILNE
(DHC DJ)
Fine purveyor of Dadaist experimentalist pop music, Felix Kubin brings his manic electrofuzzle crossover antics to a much anticipating Dirty Hearts audience. The Hamburg native is the messenger of exploding lungs, living and working against gravitation. His global appearances include Sonar (Barcelona) and Mutek while he's probably best explained, apart from checking his myspace below, as thus...  "If there'd be one man to send to the aliens as an example of the mankind, that'd be Felix Kubin.“ (Aavikko)

BOYFRIND/GIRLFRIEND

STEVEN MILNE (DHC DJ)
Boyfriend/Girlfriend are an epic pop guitar, bass and drum three-piece that throw in toy beats and boy/girl shouts to keep themselves entertained. With members spread between Glasgow and Edinburgh, they attempt to make personalised music that eschews typical topics, sounds and song formats. Referencing Mogwai, Ben Folds Five, Shellac and Pat Nevin, and singing in their home-grown accents, they create a brand of epic, earnest rock that rarely resorts to power chords... which is a shame if you were planning a Patrick Swayze tribute night out.
