HOACHING (with awards)...
It’s not that we LIKE blowing our own trumpet, but there’s no other way to say it, except...YES, YES, YES Y’ALL - we won another award, y’all. 'Best Late Night Bar In Scotland' Award this time, at The Theme Bar and Restaurant Awards in Glasgow, last week. The nominees for the Scottish title included four venues from the music and culture hives of Glasgow and Edinburgh - Moskito, One Up, Cabaret Voltaire and Lulu. Snafu will now go forward to the national finals held on 17th June at The Battersea Evolution, London to compete for the overall title of Best Late Night Bar in the UK, yes, the UK. Keep your digits crossed people!

Snafu Magazine is out now folks and features a rather tasty chance to win weekend camping tickets to Rockness. We're giving away 5 pairs of weekend tickets to the event on the shores of Loch Ness over 7/8 June. This year features the return of party instigator Fat Boy Slim as well as performances from mag interviewees' The Black Ghosts and Midnight Juggernauts. Grab a copy from the club or one of the many trusty Aberdonian stockists.

THE DEEP END HOUSE MUSIC SATURDAYS IN SNAFU

Exceptional pedigree, direct from Auld Reekie, as the head-house-honcho of the capital's long-standing Ultragroove parties makes his Deep End debut. He's been around since time began (well, the second summer of love) and has seen all the trends come and go.. the fads explode then wimper out... but to the true disco believers out there good music is just damn, good music! fullstop.

SATURDAY 24th MAY
JAMES CURD (GREENSKEEPERS / CHICAGO)
FUNKY TRANSPORT (CLASSIC / PLAYHOUSE / CHEZ)
This month James Curd, of The Greenskeepers, flies on a solo mission to stage Snafu for The Deep End, dropping his hallmark jazz-tinged, cut up, funked up, dubby, swingy house music bombs all over the shop. For those who are unfamiliar with The Greenskeepers, read on... James started as a youngster spinning loft parties and raves at only 15 years old, and by the age of 19 he had built a solid name for himself in the Chicago club scene, holding down residencies with th elikes of Derrick Carter and Gene Farris.

Soon after, James' love of music pulled him into the world of music production, and had his first record deal with the French recording label BNO within his first year. On reuniting with old skateboard friend Nick Mauer, the pair joined forces and Greenskeepers was born. Fast forward a coupla years and band members Mark Share (who produced and played in a Chicago funk band) and Coban Rudish (the bass player from Marks funk band) joined The Greenskeepers collective to produce the first Greenskeepers Album, ‘Pleetch’ which had three songs licensed to TV show ‘Greys Anatomy’. In 2005 James and the Greenskeepers took their live show on the road. Full of electronic rock 2006's "Polo Club" was hailed in music and lifestyle magazines and sent the band off on the road again - which, if you remember, is when they first played Snafu.

Today, James can be found running three record labels (Greenkeepers Music, Igloo Music and G-Swing), DJ-ing globally, and kicking it in Greenskeepers, with their track ‘Vagabond’ feat. J-Dub featuring in the new Grand Theft Auto IV.

SUNDAY 31st MAY
TOM MIDDLETON (COSMOS / BIG CHILL / JEDI KNIGHT)
FUNKY TRANSPORT (CLASSIC / PLAYHOUSE / CHEZ)

Tom grew up on a diet of breakdancing, surfing and skating, 80’s electro, synth pop, hip hop, ska, goth, rock, jazzfunk, soul and boogie, early Chicago acid house, Detroit techno, New York house and garage. This eclectic buffet of beats has, in my opinion, created in Tom on of the top electronic music producers in the world. He's is a classically trained cellist and pianist, who following a chance meeting with Richard James (Aphex Twin), went on to learn the science of sampling and synth programming, and lead to the pair producing the "Analogue Bubblebath" EP. The success of this release in turn lead to the creation of Tom's most famous of pseudonyms with Mark Pritchard - Jedi Knights. Their album "New School Science" inspired everyone from The Prodigy & The Chemical Brothers to Daft Punk & the Freestylers.

Since this landmark release, Tom has released material as Amba, The Mod Wheel and Cosmos; held a much-coveted residency at Manumission; produced landmark Essential Mixes and, of course, established himself as one of the world’s most exciting compilation artists via diverse series such as Crazy Covers, The Trip and now legendary Sounds Of The Cosmos and global DJ slots. Tom’s genius for weaving acoustic and electronic sounds will capture your attention, take you to a deep place and leave you feeling warm inside.

THE DIRTY HEARTS CLUB THURSDAYS LIVE
THURSDAY 8th MAY (late show)
SOFT TOY EMERGENCY live
STEVEN MILNE (DHC DJ)
Liverpudlian foursome, Soft Toy Emergency, were a funk-rock band once upon a time, now with the addition of a laptop and some swish ideas they’re NYPC-supporting purveyors of fitful electro-pop, producing a mighty good anti-zuton, Casion’n’ iMac racket.

THURSDAY 15th MAY

THE HAZY JANES live
STEVEN MILNE (DHC DJ)
Following a hugely successful UK tour and showcase at this year’s SXSW festival, The Hazey Janes will be releasing ‘Always There’ as the second single from their acclaimed debut album ‘Hotel Radio’. The Dundee based four-piece serve up life-affirming indie-pop, pacey and rocky, with a respectful nod to both the past (Big Star, The Beach Boys) and the present (The Magic Numbers, Rilo Kiley). It’s feelgood music, perfect for the long hazey days of summer.

MIXTAPE TWISTED.DIRTY.ELECTRONICA.SNAFU FRIDAYS.
FRIDAY 9th MAY
A LA FU (BIG DADA / VAVA RECORDS)
From early hip-hop roots this DJ/producer's musician tempo has been thoroughly hung, dried and quartered.. that's 4-4 so to speak as the sounds of B-more are flipped through the grimiest levels of urban audio possible. From recent warm-up slots alongside RZA, Methodman and Redman there's 5 hours for A LA FU to showcase the depths of his Serrato sack.

doors :: 10pm - 3pm MEMBERS FREE

FRIDAY 16th MAY
EDIT SELECT:
PERCY X
(SOMA / CLONE)
ANDREW WEATHERALL (TWO LONE SWORDSMEN / FABRIC / SOMA)
This is set to be the first in a series of Edit-Select parties hosted by digital funkmaster Percy X. His new label/moniker, Edit Select, continues his devotion to stripped back electronica with minimal sounds of Detroit influence - currently doing serious damage to the record bags of Villalobos, Hawtin and Luciano. Tonight a certain Mr Weatherall joins the party to add his own selective edit to the mix, much to the delight of many a techno connoisseur. "The Major" is partly responsible for numerous seminal moments in British musical evolution (Primal Scream / Sabres of Paradise / New Order) so a chance to hear his take on techno-sizzling-electro is a must.

Further dates are in September and December - reduced entry for these special, mystery guest nights tonight only.

BANDS, ALTERNATIVE CABARET, BURLESQUE, MAGIC...

MONDAY 12th MAY
BURLESQUE SPECIAL:
DAIQUIRI DUSK
FUDGE DJs
An award-nominated artiste (MoB Awards 2007 Finalist - Best Newcomer) Daiquiri Dusk is one of Scotland's sassiest starlets. An established performer with a background in musical theatre and dance as well as appearing in numerous short films and on television. Having trained with the Academy of Burlesque & Cabaret, Daiquiri offers her own take on burlesque - cutesy cheesecake at its best, incorporating a range of acts, from strip-teasing to tassel twirling to fan-dancing and balloon popping. Someone best remind Gomes to take a cold shower before he opens up. Fudge DJs in assistance.

doors :: 9pm - 2am £3/2

MONDAY 19th MAY
MOHARE live
DEAD ON THE WIRE
WHICH WAY NOW
COOKHOUSE HEROES
FUDGE DJs
This looked like a Knebworth concert on first read, and I guess someday it could be, but here's one reason for getting down to this - Mohare's odd ball cover of Chic’s "Good Times", where the vocalist and drummer put a rap on the number. With a potential three further outfits on the bill we'll try and keep Boaby Geldof's fund raising antics to a minimum tonght.

doors :: 9pm - 2am £3/2
